Tourism Bulgaria
Bulgaria's tourism industry is relatively new, just like the Bulgarian property market. It's a classic case of "rags to riches" as if the whole world suddenly discovered the Pearl of Europe all at once.
Like all most holiday destinations, Bulgaria has its peak and low seasons. Over 60% of Buglaria's annual tourists visit during the peak season (summer months) and this compares to as little as 15% during January to March.
Coastal Resorts peak between April and early October, whilst ski resorts peak between end November to end of March.
Once you have spent time in Bulgaria, it's easy to see why visitors are drawn back. A largely undiscovered gem, this country of contrasts offers year round activities to suit the whole family:
For the active Bulgarian tourist:
- Trekking
- Skiing
- Hiking
- Biking
- Horse Riding
- Rock Climbing
- Hunting
- Rafting
- Paragliding
Bulgarian Beaches:
For beach lovers, Bulgaria has 380kms of fine golden sand and natural dunes. The Black Sea is calm, soft and safe and according to bathers a delight in which to swim. Due to its calm nature, an array of water activities can be enjoyed from diving, windsurfing, water skiing, snorkelling, underwater fishing, yachting and other water sports.
Snow Sports:
Bulgaria offers a ski resort for all ski stages:
Bansko nestled between the Pirin, Rila and Rhodope Mountains is suitable for advanced skiers
Pamporovo (in the Rhodope Mountains) with its rounded and more gentle slopes is ideal for beginners
World famous and exclusive Borovets in the Rila Mountains is ideal for all winter sports
Mount Vitosha overlooking Sofia also has an excellent snow sports centre.
Art, History and Culture:
Lovers of art and culture will be at their element in this historic country, which offers more than 30,000 historic monuments, several of which are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Monasteries, museums, art galleries, pre-historic finds, Thracian tombs, Roman fortresses adorn the country.
Spa Resorts:
Bulgaria Health Resorts provide the ultimate in a luxury and pampered retreat. Ask J&JA about some of our SPA Resorts.
Golf:
Bulgaria Could be Europe's Next Golfing "Hotspot"
Sofia News Agency (05 May 2007)
Real estate developers in Bulgaria have already woken up to the massive pulling power of top quality golf courses, experts say.
"Five signature courses - from the likes of Ian Woosnam, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player - are planned," says Chris Goodall from English language magazine Quest Bulgaria.
"Developers here have recognised that by setting a course in an excellent location and combining it with additional quality attractions such as spas, wellness centres, horse riding, tennis and so on, gives year-round appeal. Golf is offering buyers the opportunity to buy top real estate not linked specifically to sea or ski."
With global golf tourism worth over GBP 10 B, Bulgaria has 12 new 18-hole courses in development or underway, with five due for completion by 2008. Of these five courses, 30% of the 2,300 residential units across them have already been sold.
Experts point out that Bulgaria is set to prosper from its all-new putting greens, given the success of Spanish and Portuguese golf developments and with low cost airlines further spurring golf development.
There is a good choice of airlines flying into Bulgaria from the UK and other parts of Europe, a few are below:
Aer Lingus has announced that it will operate direct flights from Dublin to Bourgas from 12 June 2008 which is very good news for the tourist and real estate market. Flights will be twice weekly from June to October.
